music and lyrics. cartoons and animations

This is just something I found while doing some 'research' on Disney.

To our friend, Howard,
Who gave a mermaid her voice,
and a beast his soul.
We will be forever grateful.

Howard Ashman
1950-1991

I think that dedication is really beautiful.

And for my sake [and probably thousands of others], I'd like to thank mr howard ashman for his wonderful work on beauty and the beast and aladdin.

i remember watching the making-of documentary on my little mermaid dvd and i remember [if i'm correct that is...] two men trying to compose one of the little mermaid songs. i think i ended up tearing while watching the narration of how these two wonderful people came up with under the sea and other songs in little mermaid. i distinctly remember the documentary saying something abt how one would hum the tune and the other would spontaneously come up with lyrics.

would have been wonderful to have been a fly on the wall [of the animation studio] when the pair of geniuses were at work. it was heart-rendering to hear that little mermaid nearly was not created.

not that little mermaid was/is one of my favourite cartoons [scratch that, cartoons trivialises the genuity] animations, but i certainly enjoyed the fairy tale. or rather the adaptation of Han's Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid. Thumbelina is quite special as well.

I'll be waiting for the Special Editions of Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King [whole set probably] to be released again for that limited period of time.

In the meantime, Disney's Enchanted was a unique flick and, while I may remain a love skeptic, was truly wonderful to watch.
