Ephemera, Hear Me: Heart's Hope Lies Within Belladonna

OMG! i just finished reading Belladonna. i like Sebastian more, but Belladonna is still good. although, if you compare, i think the black jewels trilogy is even better. I know i made it clear that i don't like the whole lit-theme-thing. But i couldn't help but notice the 'theme-thing' in the book, especially in Belladonna.

Kindness begets Kindness? often preached about, but really relevant in the Landscapes of Ephemera Duology - the land manifests what is inside the heart.

The heart is the sails, the will is the tiller.* Really relevant in whatever situation i guess.

Opportunities and Choices.
Michael was the opportunity, Belladonna was given the choice.
Michael was the key, Belladonna had to wield it.
Michael had to choose: Withold the knowledge, live a life with his heart's wish, when eventually the world will die and they will perish with it or Tell the story, defeat the darkness, but send Belladonna to the darkness and save the world, live the remainder of his life emptily.

"It might not work," Michael said as he and Sebastian walked over to the sandbox.
"You said that."
"I just don't want you to hope for too much."
Sebastian stopped. "Magician. Isn't that the whole point? To hope?"
Michael swayed with the force of those words flowing trough the currents on the island. "It is. Yes, it is".

it doesn't really hit you if you just read this tiny excerpt from the book. So, go check the duology at the author's website. click here.

to be concise - well, it really won't cover how i feel, coz words are never enough, as i usually say. but to put it in one word, it's beautiful.

i don't really like michael, surprisingly, since i always like the male protagonist. this has been the only exception in all the novels i've read. it's kinda disturbing in a way. doesn't really settle well. well, michael kinda reminds me of Saetan - coz he calls Jaenells "Witch-child" in the Black Jewels Trilogy; and Daemon - coz he had to endure losing his love in the books. but even with all the similarities, they don't endear michael's character to me.

anyway, i should stop my rant now. dinner.

*disclaimer: black jewels trilogy, ephemera duology, their characters and all other italicised belong to anne bishop.
